Storytelling - 180 rule
Today we got our brief for our next camera workshop; this is storytelling with the 180 rule.
The 180 rule in storytelling is where you place the camera in the scene, you have to remember the camera is the audience. Think of an imaginary line and this line you do not cross with the camera, otherwise if it is crossed characters may not be looking the same way or be the other way round in scenes. This is so the audience does not get confused.
We was shown a clip from the film 'Goodwill Hunting' to show the 180 rule. However this does not always need to be followed if it fits with the story for example we was shown a clip from 'The Shining' and the 180 rule isn't followed in the clip but it still works as it is being using to show the mindset of the character.
Our brief is to make a short film titled 'Crossing the line' using this rule which I will upload to the blog, once edited.
